Old Legos, New Creations

My kids have way too many Legos. I must say I’m proud of my color-coded system of organizing the Legos in bin and after bin, carefully tucked under my sons’ bed. (Click here and here for other great tips on organizing Legos.) But the eco part of me cringes at the excess. Soon after the castle or ship or car are dismantled, the pieces find their way under the bed and rarely come out again. I know I certainly haven’t seen anyone trying to rebuild the Hogwarts castle we tore down several months ago. I’ve often thought would be nice to breathe some new life into those piles of pieces.

Luckily, I recently stumbled onto Rebrickable, a site that allows you input the sets you own and suggests new creations you can build with the pieces you have. They also have a large database of “MOC’s” (My Own Creations) which you can also copy or add your own. It’s like having new Lego set ready for building without having to purchase a thing!  Sounds like a good plan for my kids and the environment.
